K-6 Classroom Applications of NETS*T Through Collaborative Projects

A team consisting of the K-6 teacher, a preservice teacher and university faculty decide on the nature of the project. They review the classroom curriculum to determine where technology would be of most value. They then design an appropriate project for the classroom. The K-6 and preservice teacher then implement the project. Because of the preservice teacher's expertise with technology, she or he usually leads out in the implementation, teaching the K-6 teacher and students how to accomplish the objectives. The K-6 teacher leads the team.

Preparing the K-6 teacher. In order to prepare the K-6 teachers to work with the preservice teachers, they participate in a PT3 sponsored three day workshop on appropriate use of technology, various software programs, and sample projects. These have been highly effectiveMapped Standardsin stimulating and preparing the teachers. Through the PT3 grant, we are able to help the partner schools acquire software if needed.

Sample Projects. The projects have ranged from simple electronic slides shows to claymation movies. Some teachers are doing content area newspapers, web pages, a virtual tour of their school among other possibilities.
