| Integrating NETS*T
Since the late 1980s, VCSU has made an increasing effort to integrate technology into all aspects of the curriculum. VCSU was given the specific mission to be the educational technology leaders in the North Dakota University System (NDUS). With the notebook initiative in 1996 it became possible to introduce technology components in all classes. Teachers immediately began giving Internet and multimedia options for student projects. These projects quickly became the norm. In 2000, with the support of a U. S. DoE PT3 grant, the Teacher Education program began a systematic process of integrating the NETS*T into their classes. The standards were mapped to the existing class projects that year. Practicum students and student teachers were surveyed at the beginning and end of their experiences for their comfort level with the standards. In the Spring of 2002, an outside evaluator documented the progress of the effort. With the K-6 grant partners, the faculty provided opportunities for students to practice the standards in the schools. As a result of this process, VCSU was a warded the ISTE Distinguished Achievement Award as an exemplary model of integrating the NETS*T into the Teacher Education program.
